Position Overview:
The Community Specialist recruits new girls and adult members, while maintaining relationships with existing
members. This role initiates and builds relationships with people and organizations to cultivate membership
growth by partnering with schools, faith-based and grassroots organizations, and community influencers. The Community Specialist will report to a regional membership manager.
This position requires daily travel throughout the council jurisdiction. Primary recruitment areas will cover Edgewater, Lincoln Park, Downtown, South Loop, Austin, Bridgeport, West Town, Irving Park, Lincoln Square, and North Center.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implements a plan to recruit new girl and adult members in targeted areas by using data, understanding the community, and building relationships with community volunteers and families.
- Generates leads to reach membership goals in assigned areas that reflect the diversity of the area served.
- Supports current membership by attending monthly volunteer meetings in assigned communities.
- Achieves personal, team, and council goals at strategic points in an 18-month membership cycle.
- Partners with local volunteers and families to extend awareness of Girl Scouting and provide access to membership.
- Maintains reporting documents as requested by the deadline.
- Fully engages as a member of a regional membership team.
- Attends local community and council-wide activities to ensure Girl Scouting is visible, viable, and accessible.
- Supports policies and procedures of the GSGCNWI.
- Models behavior consistent with the Mission and Purpose of Girl Scouting.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in sales, marketing, and/or membership.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent presentation skills for small and large groups.
- Ability to work independently and communicate through technology and in person.
- Computer skills MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
- Proficient in creating and delivering PowerPoint Presentations
- Reliable transportation to travel as needed within the council’s jurisdiction
Compensation: $24.36/hr
